MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)- The family of a teenage boy who drowned in Duck Lake State Park held a candlelight vigil on Saturday in his honor.
Justin Pitz, 18, was swimming across Duck Lake with a friend when he began to struggle, asked for help, and went under. His friend alerted family members who called 911.
Rescue teams from across the county combed the waters for two hours. Divers finally found the teenager's body in about 8-to-12 ft. of water. Justin's mother, Tammy Lawton, was at Saturday night's event.
"The candlelight vigil is in memory of Justin, and all that he had touched, the community that he had touched, the teachers that he had touched friends family a lot of support," she said. "He graduated June 5th, and today was his graduation party, and we had to cancel it, and make funeral arrangements."
Dozens of people attended Saturday night's tribute.
