MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)-If your heading to a Muskegon County campground for the Fourth of July, you likely won't be able to launch fireworks.

Muskegon County parks prohibit the use of any fireworks, including sparklers. All three Muskegon County campgrounds and state park campgrounds have similar rules.

"The rule states, and always has, that there are no fireworks in the county parks. And the reason for that is that they are dangerous, they are disruptive and people do not pay attention to what time it is. It can be two or three in the morning sometimes," explained Jim Wood, Muskegon County parks superintendent.

Park staff will strictly enforce the ban because of the added potential danger this year for grass fires. Similar bans are also in place at almost all city parks.
