Contamination advisory in Manistee

(Ludington Daily News) MANISTEE - District Health Department No. 10 issued a contamination advisory for Manistee's Fifth Avenue Beach Wednesday after average E. coli bacteria levels were measured at 1,872 colonies per 100 milliliters of water in Lake Michigan Tuesday morning.

The health department can close beaches when E. coli levels exceed 300 colonies per 100 milliliters of water.

Measurements of E. coli at Fifth Avenue Beach were 2,420, 1,120 and 2,420 for an average of 1,872.
