GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-Thousands of people filled downtown Grand Rapids Wednesday night to celebrate Independence Day.
The Amway Fourth of July Family Fireworks display started at 10:30 p.m. In 2011, the display featured about 2,300 fireworks. This year, organizers expanded the show, with about 3,000 fireworks launching off both bridges over the Grand River. The crew who choreographed Wednesday night's display started working on the show over seven months ago.
"To me, it's worth all of the work of helping design the show. Seeing the shells breaking in coordination with some of the other lower profile fireworks, it's kind of fun watching it all go up," said Gary Richards, who works with Arthur Rozzi Pyrotechnics.
Unlike last year, Grand Rapids police say there are no reports of any violence following the fireworks show.
