Muskegon Awning and Fabrication has been in business since 1890.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - The numbers "1890" on the side of the Muskegon Awning and Fabrication building do not indicate the company's address on Henry Street, but the year the company started doing business in town.

Owner David Bayne says back in 1890 the focus of business was serving the needs of farmers, "selling feedbags and repairing harnesses for horses."

Bayne says a century later, the focus has shifted to making custom awnings for homes and businesses.

"Most of what we do cannot be bought," says Bayne. "It has to be made to fit a window, fit a deck, or fit a wall space."

Muskegon Awning and Fabrication is expanding its presence in Kent County by opening Grand Rapids Awning in the Plainfield Plaza.

"There was a need in Grand Rapids for a showroom for people to come and look at the products and speak to someone." Bayne says.

When thinking about the future Bayne says to stay successful here in Michigan he and his employees will continue to strive to offer customers "a great product at a fair price."

You can call Muskegon Awning & Fabrication at (231) 759-0911, or Grand Rapids Awning at (616) 361-4456.
