GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Sunday July 8th marks the fifth anniversary of the death of Grand Rapids Police Officer Robert Kozminski.
Police Chief Kevin Belk recently reflected on that day "We certainly remember Officer Kozminski, and the sacrifice he made 5 years ago this weekend, and we continue to remember that."
Officer Kozminski was killed in an ambush by Jeffery Van Vels while responding to a domestic disturbance call, on July 8th, 2007.
Van Vels is currently serving a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing Officer Kozminski. The 29 year old officer was the 14 Grand Rapids Police Officer killed in the line of duty.
