SPRING LAKE, Michigan (WZZM) - One of the oldest homes in Spring Lake caught fire late Sunday night.
Spring Lake Fire Department Captain Brian Sipe says that the home was built in 1855. Our partners at the Grand Haven Tribune says some historic Grand Haven documents show the house may have been built as early as 1841.
The current owner lived in one unit of the duplex and their son lived in the other. The son noticed a smell of smoke just before 11pm when he found smoke coming through the 2nd floor flooring. He was able to alert his parents to get out and all three were able to escape unharmed.
The home appears to be a total loss.
