As executive producer of the preeminent singing talent show, "American Idol" and dance show, "So you Think You Can Dance" NIGEL LYTHGOE knows a thing or two about what it takes to succeed in show business. This summer, the international Emmy-winning producer will take his expertise to a new show called "Opening Act." This TV first of its kind, will showcase not only some extraordinary, unknown talent, but the emotional and very personal journey that awaits them on their way to the national stage.
In the new docu series, Lythgoe and his A-List Artist Development Team - including Grammy-winning superstar Mary J. Blige, Fall Out Boy member Pete Wentz, chart-topping producer Antonina Armato from Rock Mafia and country superstar MARTINA MCBRIDE*- comb the Internet to find the web's most talented amateurs, then, give them the once-in-a-lifetime chance to open for a top music superstar. But here, there are no judges to woo, auditions to pass or rounds to win: Each band or solo act has only days to prepare after a surprise visit that presents them with an opportunity they never knew existed, and viewers follow them from obscurity to the big-time gig that could change their lives forever.
Martina McBride knows talent when she sees it. As part of her role, Martina will not only share vocal and performance tips, but also coach the singers on how to deal with the challenges that inevitably come with pursuing a music career.
"Opening Act" premieres Monday July 9, 2012 at 10PMET/9PM CT on E!
