WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -- Three people who rushed to rescue a stranger following a hit and run collision were honored Monday by the city of Walker.

On April 21, Luis Valdez-Amaro was driving on Alpine Ave. NW near 3 Mile Rd. when his vehicle was struck by another car.  Valdez-Amaro was in and out of consciousness in his vehicle when it caught fire.

Gerald Bajema, Aurcellius Randle and David Hart pulled Valdez-Amaro out of his burning vehicle before police and firefighters arrived.  Emergency crews credit the trio's actions with saving the man's life.

Bajema, Randle and Hart were honored by the Walker City Commission at the board's meeting Monday.  Hart was unable to attend the meeting.

Walker Public Safety Director Catherine Garcia-Lindstrom says the driver who caused the accident and left the scene has been found and will face charges.
