GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Kent County authorities are investigating an apparent case of animal hoarding.
Authorities say last week they removed ten dogs, three cats and a chinchilla from a home on Grand Rapids' northeast side.
Police went to the home after receiving a tip that the animals were living in unsanitary conditions.
The animals are being rehabilitated right now at the Kent County Animal Control.
The homeowner is charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty and neglect. Her name is not being released.
Shelter workers are in the process of washing, grooming and treating the animals for parasites.
"Most of these dogs seem like they will make great pets once we can get them healthy and we are able to place them up for adoption," said Carly Luttmann, Kent County Animal Shelter supervisor.
Rehabilitation is expected to take several weeks.
