GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - Former Michigan State and now Washington Redskins Quarterback Kirk Cousins visited with children at the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Thursday afternoon.

Cousins signed autographs and posed for pictures, and he also shared why visiting children's hospitals is so important to him: "I was about 19 months old I was burned severely and spent several weeks in a children's hospital and had a high fever almost lost my life and I don't remember it very well but my parents told me how difficult that was on them and the challenges they had to go through and I know it can't be easy for these families themselves so anything I can do to put smile on their face brighten their day."

Cousins says he doesn't get back home to West Michigan very often and it's important to him to continue to be a part of the community that he grew up in.
