UPDATE AT 10:30 P.M. (WZZM)-Two teenagers from the Cutlerville area are in the hospital after a crash cut their fishing trip short.
The accident happened at 7:19 p.m. Friday on eastbound 68th Street near Cherry Valley Avenue SE in Caledonia Township. Kent County deputies say the boys were heading to the Thornapple River to fish when their car crossed the center line and hit a tree.
The driver suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. Firefighters had to cut the passenger out of the wreckage. He was flown to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in serious condition Friday night.
Investigators say speed played a role in the accident.
CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Kent County Sheriff's Department called in an Aero Med helicopter to 68th Street and Cherry Valley around 7:30 p.m. Friday according to WZZM 13's scanner traffic.
Kent County dispatch said that Aero Med was called in to help with the rescue of a person that is pinned down in a vehicle that is actively on fire.
One other person was pinned down in the vehicle, but they have been pulled out.
