Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Brennan Boesch capped a three-run seventh
inning with a two-run home run and the Detroit Tigers held on for an 8-6
win over the Los Angeles Angels in the opener of a four-game series at
Comerica Park.
Delmon Young knocked in two runs, Prince Fielder went 2-for-3 with an RBI
single and two runs scored and Quintin Berry added three hits, including an
RBI single, and two critical stolen bases in the victory for the Tigers,
winners in eight of their last nine games.
Octavio Dotel (3-2) earned the win with an inning and one-third of scoreless
relief behind starter Rick Porcello, who allowed five runs on eight hits in 5
2/3 frames.
Torii Hunter finished 4-for-5 with three RBI, while Albert Pujols, Mike Trout
and Mark Trumbo each drove in a run for the Angels, who have dropped three
of their past four contests.
LaTroy Hawkins (2-2) suffered the loss after allowing Boesch's go-ahead long
ball.
