GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) Grand Rapids business leader Bing Goei is expected to officially announce Friday a write-in campaign for the 76th District.
Goei is challenging Representative Roy Schmidt in the August 7th Republican Primary.
Earlier this week, the Kent County Prosecutor's office released a review of a Michigan State Police investigation involving Schmidt and House Speaker Jase Bolger. The investigation followed the representative's decision to switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party in May of this year. As part of that switch, its alleged Schmidt tried to pay a candidate to run against him. The prosecutor's office described what Schmidt and Bolger did as a "scheme" and an effort to defraud the electorate. In an interview with WZZM 13, Schmidt apologized for what he did.
