GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WZZM)-The wet weather didn't stop a group of union workers from going on strike.
Members of Teamsters Local 406 say a 10 month contract dispute led to Thursday's picket outside Grand Rapids Gravel Company. The group says Grand Rapids Gravel Company wants to cut their pay by $6 an hour, but the union refuses to give up more than $3.26 hour.
"Going beyond that, we're concerned that we cannot raise our families. So we can only give back so much money to a point where we have to say no, because we need to survive too," said Jim Chase, business agent to the union group.
A spokesman for the Michigan Department of Transportation says he does not believe the strike will impact state road projects.
