AURORA, Colo. (WZZM)-A Colorado woman says a trip to West Michigan likely saved her husband's life.

Kalie Carter and her husband left Aurora for Grand Rapids Friday afternoon. Had it not been for their vacation, Carter says her husband could have been among the dozens of shooting victims.

"It's really sad. In a way, I thank God that we weren't there because my husband probably would have been at that showing," said Carter. "He's a very big Batman fan he's been talking about that movie before it even started filming, and there's very good possibility he could have been there. So when I woke him up to tell him today, he was in shock as well."

The Carters were waking up in Iowa when they heard the news. The theater where the attack happened is only about a five minute drive from their home.
