KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WZZM) -- A juvenile breaking and entering suspect is in custody after trying to assault a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer with a hatchet early Sunday morning. The officer was not injured in the incident.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were responding to a breaking and entering complaint just before 4 a.m. at Specialty Storage in the 800 block of East Cork Street where three subjects were reportedly breaking into storage units.
Upon officer arrival, the suspects fled on foot, leading to a chase into a wooded area where one of the suspects pulled the hatchet. The officer was able to disarm the suspect and take him into custody. Both of the other suspects were apprehended as well.
Three 16 year-old suspects from the incident are currently lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile home on charges of breaking and entering, resisting and obstructing arrest, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and felonious assault on a police officer. All charges are pending review of the investigation.
