The Harbor Humane Society is seeking emergency donations to help its staff provide surgeries and medications for animals in need.

WEST OLIVE, Mich. (WZZM) -- An Ottawa County animal rescue group is putting out an emergency call for help, saying it's funds are lower than they've ever been.

Workers sat the Harbor Humane Society say that they rely on donations, but have never made an emergency call for help. The non-profit organization's represenatives say they are in need of funding, mainly for animal surgeries and medications.

"The situation is that we've had a real spike in animals that need extra care -- animals that are heartworm positive, amputations, emaciated animals, one's that have been abused or hurt," says Sue Ann Culp, the humane society's program director.  "It's been a real drain on our resources, especially in the medical area."

On Monday afternoon, the Humane Society of West Michigan said it will help out by taking two dogs from the Harbor Humane Society that are in need of medical care.

If you would like to donate to Harbor Humane Society you can send a check or make a donation on its website.
