GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Unemployment in Grand Rapids is hovering at about 9%.  Still, many local manufacturers have been challenged to fill the many job openings they have.  A new program, called Ready Now! aims to change that.

It's a partnership between the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, The Right Place, and Michigan Works.   Ready Now! participants will attend workshops on team building, resume writing, career exploration and personal success. Once completed, candidates can also participate in mock interviews and learn about Work Keys testing at the Michigan Works! Service Center before interviewing with participating employers.   Among the employers participating are Amway, Lacks Enterprises and Pridgeon and Clay.

The workshops start next week, and online registration is required.  Click on the link to Michigan Works for more information. "We continue to hear from manufacturers that job opportunities are out there. However, finding the right talent is the challenge," said Birgit Klohs, President and CEO, The Right Place, Inc. "This unique program will bring together our growing manufacturers and the skilled talent those businesses need to succeed."
