(USA TODAY) - Twilight star Kristen Stewart is having a pretty rough Wednesday. Just hours after reports swirled that the 22-year-old actress had been involved in an affair with her 41-year-old Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, she has confirmed the news by publicly apologizing to her boyfriend Robert Pattinson, 26.
In a statement obtained by People, Stewart acknowledged that she'd cheated and said sorry to her British beau, whom she met when they starred together as lovers in the first Twilight film in 2008.
"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
Us Weekly first reported news of the affair, showing a photo of Stewart being embraced last week by a man believed to be Sanders, who is married to and has two children with model Liberty Ross. Interestingly, under her husband's direction, Ross played Stewart's mother in Snow White.
UPDATE: Sanders has just released his own statement about the affair to People: "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family, My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."
