GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The Grand Rapids area is hosting the Transplant Games of America.

More than 1,100 athletes -- each having received an organ transplant of some kind -- will compete in 12 different sports.

Organizers say winning isn't the goal, but saving lives is.

"One person can save the lives of eight people, and it can enhance the quality of 50 others," sats Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson. "Every time we get someone signed up, our staff feels so good about it because they know they're helping save lives."

The Transplant Games are July 28-31 at Grand Valley State University's Allendale campus.
