WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM)- Students in the Wyoming Public School District will head back to school with several changes, including what they can wear.

The district recently consolidated its schools, and, this year, it also revised its dress code. The move is causing a debate among parents across West Michigan.

"I agree, ours might be more restrictive than others," says Superintendent Tom Reeder.

He says the district revised the dress code because the community asked them to.

"Parents were concerned about other kids. Teachers were complaining. Everyone seemed to be concerned, but nothing was getting done."

According to the new code, there will be no baggy pants for boys and no yoga pants for girls.

"Yoga pants are for yoga class or gym, not for school," Reeder said.

Shirts must have sleeves and the neckline can only be three closed fingers away from the base of the neck, and shorts and skirts must touch the top of the kneecap. Hats, do-rags, beanies, hoods and bandanas are all banned.

So far, the revisions are creating a buzz on WZZM 13's Facebook page. Over 1,700 people "like" the rules and over 580 people posted comments.

Facebook fan Linda says, "I think it's great. Hope this catches on across the us, in all the schools."

While Facebook fan Daniel says, "I'm pretty sure they don't make skirts or shorts that long anymore."

Most of the comments were in favor of the changes.
