BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Spartan Stores is voluntarily recalling two products -- one sold in store delis and another in its produce sections -- that contain onions from a processor linked to possible listeria contamination.

Spartan Stores is recalling its Three Bean Salad (deli) and its 12 oz. Broccoli Stir Fry (produce).  The products were processed between July 13 and July 26, and were made with onions produced by Gills Onions of Oxnard, Calif.

The recall is in connection with an expanded voluntary recall announced by Gills Onions, LLC., of their peeled whole yellow onions due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a news release from Spartan Stores.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say listeriosis is a food-borne infection primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems.  Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, fever and muscle aches.  Infections during pregnancy can lead to complications including premature deliver and miscarriage.

The retailer has not received any confirmations of illnesses resulting from the consumption of the products.  Anyone who is concerned about an illness is advised to contact their family doctor.

The products being recalled can be returned to any Spartan Store location for a full refund, or thrown away.

Anyone with questions about the recall can contact Spartan Stores' Consumer Affairs at (800) 451-8500 or contact Gills Onions Customer Service at (888) 220-0436.
