MANLIUS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- A man has died after being struck by a freight train while walking on a trestle over the Kalamazoo River in southwestern Michigan.

Allegan County sheriff's Sgt. Tony Saucedo tells radio station WOOD and the Kalamazoo Gazette that the incident occurred in Manlius Township, 40 miles northwest of Kalamazoo.

The man's body was recovered from the river around 7 a.m. His name was not immediately released.

Saucedo says an Amtrak train was stopped from moving through the area after the incident. Passengers took buses to another location to catch the train.
