GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) - Coast Guard Festival organizers say more than 200,000 visitors will attend events over the 10 day-long festival.
On Monday, three large cutters entered Grand Haven Harbor.
"When you hear the ships are coming, the ships are coming then the festival has officially started", says festival Executive Director Mike Smith.
The ships docked along the channel are the USCGC Neah Bay, USCGC Hollyhock, CCGS Griffon. Free ship tours start Monday night.
Motorists heading to Grand Haven from Grand Rapids should be aware of a detour due to road construction. M-DOT has closed exit nine along I-96 for construction. A detour has motorists exiting at exit 10 then following posted detour signs west to
M-104.
The Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival ends Sunday.
