GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Grand Rapids Public Schools and the city have launched a new plan to get information to you. It's called "We Are GR"-- a joint communications initiative replacing the Grand Rapids Public School's Highlights and the city's Parks and Recreation guide.

The plan includes a new 32 page newspaper, website, and Facebook and Twitter pages. And the plan will be beneficial to both the city and school system for several reasons.

"It saves us some money and that's important for both the city and the schools, but more importantly, it gives us a vehicle for communicating our messages as a city and schools together to all the citizens of Grand Rapids," said Mayor George Heartwell

"We are going to a much larger, broader base working with the city. So in addition to the homeowners in the Grand Rapids Public Schools proper, we're going to now reach the entire city, so it's a great opportunity," said GRPS Superintendent, Theresa Weatherall-Neal.

The We Are GR initiative would not cost taxpayer dollars. It would be funded with private donations and money made through advertisements.
