MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WZZM) - Mosaica Education has launched a marketing blitz with billboards, yard signs, and radio spots to get parents to enroll their children in the new charter school. On Saturday, volunteers who support the new school will go door-to-door to let parents know they must re-enroll their children before school starts on September 4.

Joseph Warren will lead the recruitment efforts Saturday morning, "Parents don't understand that they need to re-enroll." Warren has already helped about 20 former Muskegon Heights Public School students to fill out the one-page form.

With about five weeks before school is scheduled to start 60% of the staff has been hired. That number is expected to reach 80% by next week. However only 20-percent of the enrollment goal has been reached.

Alena Zachery-Ross is the new Regional Vice President of Mosaica Education. She says there's still time to reach the goal of enrolling 1,500 students, "We have a long way to go but we will get there." Zachery-Ross will oversee the charter's four buildings. She says as the start of school approaches one of her top priorities is making sure parents know they have to re-enroll their students, "We need to know who is committed to the Heights."

Mosaica's next big event is an enrollment street fair on August 11 at the high school. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include music, food, and games.

District leaders believe following the event they'll have a good idea if their goal of 1,500 students will be met.
