SHELBY, Mich. (WZZM) - Residents in the Village of Shelby are being advised to boil their water due to contamination concerns.

The Oceana County Health Department issued the advisory Thursday after tests showed coliform bacteria.

Below is a news release from authorities sent to residents:

The Village of Shelby is working closely and under the direction of the Department of Environmental Quality, The Michigan Department of Public Health District 10 and Oceana County Emergency Management to resolve the violation of the maximum contaminant level of coliform bacteria.

Coliform Bacteria is an indicator that other bacteria MAY be present in our water distribution system. As a precautionary measure we are asking everyone within our distribution system to NOT DRINK THE WATER without boiling it first. You should use bottled or boiled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice.
