(WZZM) -- Kal joins Alana and Stacia to prepare her recipe for Warm German Potato Salad.
5# Potatoes, cooked with skins on in salted water
1# Bacon, cooked crispy
4-6 Onions, sliced
1 cup Cider Vinegar
2/3 cup Water
1 cup Sugar
2 Tablespoons Flour
Salt & Pepper to taste
Cook the potatoes, cool and slice or cube them. (I use Yukon Gold potatoes and do not peel them).
Cook the bacon till crispy and then remove from the pan and drain on paper towel. Leave the bacon grease in the pan, add the onions and cook slowly until they are somewhat soft.
Add the Vinegar, Water, Sugar & Flour and mix well through the onions & bacon grease.
Now add the sliced/cubed Potatoes along with the Bacon and Salt & Pepper. Stir carefully, so as not to break up the potatoes, until all the potatoes are covered with the sauce.
Cover and let set for about an hour. This dish develops more flavor if made early in the day of serving or even the day before.
Reheat slowly just until warm. This dish should only be served warn, never hot!
This dish can be made in smaller quantities just by cutting back on ingredients!
