Cell phone video of a woman allegedly stealing campaign signs in Plainfield Twp.
PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - A political candidate upset over the disappearance of her campaign signs says she spotted someone in the act of stealing them -- on the eve of election day.
Ruth Ann Karnes is running for Plainfield Township Clerk. Karnes put up new campaign signs Monday evening near Post Drive and Jupiter Avenue, then parked nearby to stake them out. She and her daughter took cell phone video of a woman who they say pulled up the signs then drove off with them.
Karnes called 911 and deputies questioned a woman for tampering with the signs. She claimed she removed the signs because they were blocking the view of traffic. Kent County Sheriff's deputies arrested the woman on a separate warrant.
We contacted Karnes' opponent, incumbent Scott Harvey. He says people have been destroying his campaign signs and stealing the signs of several other local candidates.
