CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. (WZZM) - Cedar Springs is removing the Red Flannel logo from all city items including stationary, envelopes, and city vehicles.

The city council announced the decision Thursday night. Council members say they had to no choice after learning the Red Flannel Festival planned to move forward with a trademark infringement lawsuit.

Interim City Manager and Police Chief Roger Parent says the logos have already been removed from several vehicles but it will take a while to take it off other items like trash cans, and police uniforms. The city has 45 days to stop using the logo completely.

Parent says the city still wants a Red Flannel Festival. He said he's not sure what prompted the lawsuit but says it did follow a decision by the city last fall to increase festival fees.

We have left messages for festival organizers. We will add their comments when they become available.

The Festival is still scheduled for the first weekend in October.
