COLFAX TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - A Newaygo County man is charged with a number of felonies and misdemeanors in connection with the theft of a pig. Workers at the Valley View Pork Farm on Maple Island Road discovered the missing pig Saturday morning.

Police say Christopher Abbatoy, 28, injured two pigs and took another. He was arrested at his home Sunday.

Workers at the farm called police after discovering two bloody pigs and evidence that another pig had been butchered.

Previous to the crime, Abbatoy was pulled over near the farm on a traffic violation. Detectives then went to his home and found blood on his clothes and truck.

Lt. Craig Mast of the Oceana County Sheriff's Department described what authorities found: "Two different knives resting on the hood of the vehicle that were bloody. There was blood in the bed of the truck. The slaughtered pig was found in a refrigerator that was sitting out in his yard. It was not inside the residence. The deputies get there and had consent to open the refrigerator, and they open it up and out falls the rib cage and the quarters of the slaughtered pig."

Detectives believe another man may have helped steal the pig. The injured pigs had to be euthanized. They're worth $350 each.
