GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Tens of thousands of people will be in downtown Grand Rapids next week for the annual Rock the Rapids music festival.
Organizers Friday held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the start of construction of a festival village near the Van Andel Arena. Rock the rapids is a non-profit event that raises money for Grand Rapids Public Schools and the YMCA.
Starting at 6 a.m. Saturday, two streets near the festival site will close: Oakes street, between Ionia and Grandville, and the U.S. 131 Business access road, between Oakes and Cherry. Those streets will reopen on August 26 at 5 p.m.
Rock the Rapids runs August 20 - 25.
