Wyoming-Kentwood, MI - The Wyoming Kentwood Area Chamber of Commerce and the Grand Rapids New Car Dealers Association will present the 28th Street Metro Cruise® on Friday, August 24, 2012 and Saturday, August 25, 2012, with official Cruise events focused at Roger's Plaza. This annual celebration of classic cars attracts car lovers from all over the United States along with thousands of unique vehicles.
With more local businesses on board than ever before, the annual event has grown through the years to over 200,000 visitors and more than 15,000 vehicles. Many businesses are reaching out to the visitors and welcoming them with specials, activities and event oriented activities.
Friday night's activities start with the Sock Hop and Pinup Girl Contest sponsored by Gun Lake Casino and hosted by Relix CC and MC, running from 6 to 9pm. Live music will feature the rockabilly sounds of El Chupa Cobra.
Saturday morning will kick off at 9 am with a presentation of the color guard by the US Army, a performance by the newly formed Wyoming High School Marching Band and a tribute to former Kentwood Mayor Rick Root. Other Saturday events include the Dyno Chassis Challenge sponsored by Jets Pizza and hosted by C-Tech Performance, a DJ playing classic tunes with giveaways sponsored by Gun Lake Casino, food vendors, Metro Cruise® merchandise, an automotive swap meet for selling vehicle related items and sponsor displays.
New this year is a partnership formed with Wyoming High School to provide volunteers for the event. Sponsors for the volunteers include Consumer's Energy, Car City, Family Fare and band sponsor Direct Buy of Grand Rapids.
