Semi strikes car, Holland teen critical

HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) - A Holland teenager is critically injured after driving his vehicle into the path of a semi truck.  The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of M-40 and Cabill Drive.

Holland Police say Joshua Rutgers, 18, turned left in front of a loaded moving truck. The semi truck Rutgers' 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant on the driver's side.

Rutgers was pinned in his vehicle and sustained critical head and internal injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Holland Hospital, then flown by AeroMed to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.

The driver of the semi, William Veldboom, 52, of Holland was not injured.

M-40 was closed for four hours, it reopened around 8 p.m. Thursday.  The crash remains under investigation. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor.
