GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - It's the moment many commuters have been waiting for: Both directions of U.S. 131 should reopen Friday morning.

Thursday night, two lanes of southbound U.S. 131 are closed from Leonard Street to Hall Street for bridge work. However, the cones should clear by 2 a.m.

On the northbound side, construction crews spent nearly three months rebuilding highway overpasses from 28th Street to Wealthy.

The northbound on and off-ramps will also reopen Friday morning. The project is finishing about two weeks ahead of schedule, thanks to the extremely dry summer.
