(WZZM) - Grand Rapids Police have identified the victims as Felix Romero Reyes-Santos, 45, and Alvaro Carrillo-Mendez, 22.

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Five people shot within a few blocks of each other about an hour apart -- and it appears all or most of the dead and wounded are Latino men.

But police say they don't believe the shootings are related.

Just after 2 a.m. Monday, two men were killed and one other seriously wounded near the intersection of Burton Street SW and S. Division Avenue. 

At 3:20 a.m., two more men were shot and seriously wounded at nearby Griggs Street and Buchanan Avenue SW.

The two crimes were just a few blocks apart.

"The one outside our house and then the one down the road, that's a lot of violence for one night," says Burton Street resident Katie Atteberry.

"We have four kids," adds her husband Jason Atteberry. "This happened so close. They could have shot a stray bullet into where the kids are sleeping."

From the general descriptions of the suspects, it would seem there were two different gunmen. But the details are vague and could apply to many individuals.

Residents in the area say they don't know what to believe.

"You never know what's going on," says Buchanan Avenue resident Janet. "Remember, there are many cuckoo people around here. This is a war zone."

Police have not yet released the names of the dead and wounded men or information about possible motives.

Detectives say they are having difficulty locating and notifying next of kin.
