FREMONT, Mich. (WZZM)- The new Fremont High School is welcoming students today.  The new 170,000 square foot schoo,l has been under construction since May of 2010, replaces an 85-year-old building.

The new building is designed to fit sustainability standards and incorporates the surrounding wetland area into the school's facilities and curriculum. Students will be able to take classes in  landscaping, animal husbandry, and wildlife studies in the new agricultural center.

The school also has an on-site farm.

Large classrooms, equipped with the latest technology is what school officials say will provide an interactive learning environment for students.

The new high school has two gymnasiums. One of these is large enough to host state-wide sports competitions.

Fremont voters narrowly approved a $40 million bond in 2009 to pay for the school's construction.
