HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) - Take one step into The Goodies Factory and you'll smell the sweet aroma of fresh popcorn and caramel corn. In our Made in Michigan special we take a trip to The Goodies Factory.
Rick Wiersma, President of The Goodies Factory says his company makes products that school children can sell to raise money for their field trips, bands, or school equipment. With education budget cuts, the need is greater than ever.
The Goodies Factory makes cookie dough, cheesecakes, popcorn, and many other fundraising items. You may have seen some of their brochures at work, or as children go door-to-door.
The school keeps up to 50% of the profits, making a profit of about $8 for each item.
The Wiersma family has been running the business for decades, with mother and sons working side-by-side. They've even hired some of their neighbors.
The family says they love that their goods make a positive difference in the lives of youth and hope to do it for years to come.
