GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-Drivers heading through Grand Rapids will want to avoid the highway this weekend.

Northbound U.S. 131 from 28th Street to Hall Street is down to one lane. Crews have also closed two lanes of Southbound U.S. 131 from Leonard Street to Hall Street. An MDOT spokesman says workers are evening bridge entries, painting barrier walls, adding pavement markings and fixing utilities.

U.S. 131 completely opened to traffic just two weeks ago, after workers fixed five overpasses, which took two months. These lane closures are expected to be lifted Sunday after 7 p.m.
