Jaye Beeler's book -- Tasting and Touring Michigan's Homegrown Food: A Culinary Roadtrip -- is having a fabulous run! Wednesday Sept. 19, she's at the Okemos library and Saturday Sept. 22 at Spring Lake District Library. The library "author visits" are fun and so visual with book photographer Dianne Carroll Burdick often showing spectacular slides of their Michigan culinary roadtrip. But Jaye's super-excited about the cooking classes she will be teaching this fall.
Sept. 26 (6-9 pm) Jaye will teach 'Pesto Perfection" at the Spartan Stores Culinary Classroom at the Grandville Family Fare. This is an hands-on classes where you're let loose in the kitchen. Jaye will show you how to whirl together pesto to freeze for the winter. One of the things Jaye loves to make with pesto is her pesto, sun-dried tomato torte. Recipe will be shared at the classes in the recipe booklet.
Oct. 3 (5:30 pm) at the Secchia Instutite for Culinary Education at Grand Rapids Community College, Jaye will host a tasting and demonstration seminar titled Tasting and Touring Michigan's Homegrown Food: A Culinary Roadtrip. Call 616-234-3690 to register.
Oct. 10 (6-9) Jaye will teach Totally Tomatoes, also at the Spartan Stores Culinary Classroom at the Grandville Family Fare. Jaye will start with oven-roasted tomatoes, the absolute best way to put up your garden tomatoes. And from there, you'll make lots of wonderful tomatoes dishes.
Some of the cooking classes are hands-on, some are demonstration and all of them involve food and wine, to be enjoyed by you. The classes are fee-based mostly $40, one of them is more. You must pre-register for them. Gather your book club friends or cooking buddies or dinner party group and join me for a night of fun.
