CROCKERY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - A Kent County man faces charges after police say he hit a woman with his car, then drove away. Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputies say the victim was reported missing from Sparta 13 hours before the incident.
Estella Vitins, who is in the early stages of dementia, is in the hospital, in serious condition. Police say she was walking along I-96 near the five mile marker after her car ran out of gas. She had walked about a half mile when she was struck.
Police used Silent Observer tips to find the driver who hit her. The suspect was arrested around 10 a.m. Tuesday at his apartment complex in Gaines Township. There, authorities found a gray Jaguar, with a missing passenger side mirror and damage to the passenger side of the car.
