Dean Wassink, owner of "Olde Paths," digs, separates and ships more than one million sprigs of dune grass.

PORT SHELDON TWP., Mich. (WZZM) - We may have an abundance of it here, but dune grass is a hot commodity around the Great Lakes and a local man is the Dune Grass King.

Dean Wassink owns and operates "Olde Paths" and each spring and fall, he and a dozen seasonal workers dig, separate, and ship more than one million sprigs of dune grass.

Wassink estimates his business supplies 70% of the dune grass sold each year in the Great Lakes region.

This month, his crew will be working on a dune stabilization project at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
