(WZZM) - With the recent release of the iPhone 5, techies were in their glory. Another group of cell phone users are also excited about the new product. They are the super savers.
With the release of the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4 and 4s are now considered outdated and that means significant sales. At the moment the iPhone 5 went on sale, the iPhone 4s dropped from $200 to $100 and the iPhone 4 went from $100 to free.
Apple isn't alone in its price drops. Samsung has also done the same thing with its recent release of its Samsung S-3. Once that hit the store shelves, the Galaxy Nexus went from $300 to $150. The Razor went down from $200 to $100 and the Samsung Stellar is now free after rebate.
Many people like Derek Schroeder of Ada wait until the next release before buying the "old" one. He just bought an iPhone 4s at half the regular price. He had been looking for a good reason to get rid of his Blackberry and this recent price drop was the final factor.
"I like to always let the phones come out. They work out the bugs and after a year or two, when this expires, I'll proablaby upgrade to the iPhone 5 while everybody is getting the 6 or 7."
Schroeder points out, after selling his Blackberry, his new phone was virtually free. If you upgrade at the right time, it doesn't have to be expensive.
