FORT MYERS, Fla. (The News-Press) - Police say the man who pulled a machete on officers Wednesday in the lobby of the Fort Myers Police Department headquarters said he was "going to kill somebody or be killed by the police."

DeJuan Anderson entered the lobby at 7:22 a.m., asked to talk to a police officer and then sat down.

Officer Nick Ursitti, who entered the lobby on other business, noticed Anderson had a silver machete sitting across his lap, according to a FMPD report.

Ursitti was with officer Christopher Reiman, who radioed for backup pulled out his department issued Taser and used it on the suspect when he approached the officers with the weapon.

The Taser didn't work, but several other officers responded to the scene, and officer Randy Jelks was able to successfully Tase Anderson, forcing him to drop the machete and allowing officers to take him into custody.

Anderson remained combative during his arrest and was later pepper sprayed by deputies at the Lee County Jail, according to the report.

He is facing two counts of assault on an officer, one count of fraud and a count of resisting an officer without violence.
