Saturday, a section of Remembrance Road turned into a remembrance of Officer Trevor Slot, who died trying to stop two bank robbers on October 13, 2011.
WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) - Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of when a Walker police officer was killed during a bank robbery chase.
The City of Walker will honor Trevor Slot by dedicating a section of Remembrance Road to him.
Last October, Slot was putting out spike strips on I-96 near Marne, when he was hit by a vehicle driven by two robbery suspects.
The city already planted a tree and laid a memorial stone for Slot, next to Remembrance Road. His name is also on a bronze plaque on a memorial clock nearby.
"People will always remember him, so certaintly all of us here will remember him. But he served this community and there will be people in the community who will feel just as strongly who will want to remember Trevor," said Cathrine Garcia-Lindstrom, Walker Police Public Safety Director.
A private celebration of Slot's life will take place Saturday morning.
