GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A West Michigan charter school focused on aviation dedicated its new home Tuesday night. The West Michigan Aviation Academy's new building is near the Ford International Airport.

The school has a grand commons area, gym, high tech classrooms and new science labs. The charter school caters to students with a strong interest in aviation, math, science and engineering.

It is open to any high school aged child. Patrick Cwayna, CEO of West Michigan Aviation Academy, says, "Our students come from the entire region. Not just West Michigan, but they come as far as Portland, Jackson, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, north of Rockford and every place in between. We've become a pretty regional kind of high school."

The aviation charter school began with 80 students when it opened in 2010. It now has 245 students. For the 2012-2013 year, it will add a senior class, making it a full-fledged high school.
