TALLMADGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - An Ottawa County farmer is in critical condition after he was run over by his tractor.

The accident happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday at a farm on the 10700 block of 2nd Avenue in Tallmadge Township.

Deputies say James McClerkin, 78, parked his Farmall tractor near a corn crib on the east side of the property and got off the vehicle.  McClerkin saw the tractor begin to roll and tried to get back onto it to stop it, but could not.  He was run over after he was caught on a wheel.

An ambulance took McClerkin to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, where he is being treated.
