LEIGHTON TWP., Mich. (WZZM) - A Wayland-area person is dead after a morning crash in Allegan County.

The Allegan County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash between a pickup truck and a semi-truck at 142nd Avenue and Kalamazoo Street at about 7:00am.  The initial investigation shows that the pickup truck driver slowed for the stop sign as he traveled north on Kalamazoo, but did not stop.  The semi-truck, traveling eastbound on 142nd Avenue, could not avoid striking the pickup truck broadside.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.  He was not wearing a seatbelt. The semi-truck driver was not hurt.

Investigators say that it was raining at the time of the crash, but it isn't known if that was a factor in the crash.

Names are being withheld until family is notified.
