GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich (WZZM) -- A man charged with abusing an eight month old girl is in the Kent County Jail.
Nathaniel Sweet, 30, is charged with first degree child abuse.
Deputies say Sweet was caring for his girlfriend's infant earlier this month at a Gaines Township home when the child suffered a seizure.
The infant was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors discovered she had a fractured skull. They also discovered old rib fractures.
Investigators say Sweet's explanation of what happened to the child did not add up.
